  • What is the age requirement to rent a car from Selfdrive?

    All drivers must be between the ages of 23 and 65 to rent a car from Selfdrive.

  • How can I book a car from Selfdrive?

    You can easily book through our website, web app, or by downloading the Selfdrive app (available on iOS & Android) with our simple three-step process: "SEARCH - BOOK - DRIVE".

  • What types of cars are available for rental in the United Kingdom?

    Selfdrive offers a diverse range including economy cars, sedans, SUVs, vans/LCVs, Electric Vehicles and exotic cars (Subject to availability). Explore our wide selection on the Selfdrive app (available on iOS & Android).

  • What are the document requirements to hire a car from Selfdrive?

    For hiring a car from Selfdrive, document requirements differ for UK residents and non-UK residents.


    For UK Residents

    1. A full driving licence. (UK customers must include the printed endorsement record or the code obtained from the DVLA website for all named drivers, with details of all endorsements.) Driving licences printed with non-Roman Alphabet (Arabic, Japanese, Cyrillic etc) or any international tourist must be complemented by an international driving licence.
    2. A valid photo ID (passport, ID card, driving licence).
    3. A third form of ID that proves your address (only for UK residents). This would include a utility bill or bank statement.

    For International Travelers/Tourist

    1. Driving licences printed with non-roman alphabet (Arabic, Japanese, Cyrillic etc) or any international tourist must be complemented by an international driving licence.

    3. Credit/Debit Card: Card Must be in the name of the renter and if it's booked on behalf of someone Card holder needs to be present at the time of collecting the car to sign the agreement.

  • Do I need insurance to rent a car from Selfdrive?

    Yes, insurance coverage is included in daily and weekly bookings (1 to 29 days), while monthly bookings provide options for basic insurance or customer own insurance, offering flexibility to renters.

  • What payment methods does Selfdrive accept?

    We accept payments through valid Credit and Debit Card (MasterCard, Visa).

  • Is there a security deposit required to rent a car from Selfdrive?

    Yes, a refundable security deposit is required for all Selfdrive rentals and it will be refunded in 30 working days after the car is returned.

  • What is an Insurance Excess?

    Insurance Excess is the maximum amount you're responsible for paying in case of accident or damage, whether it's your fault or due to unidentified third-party damage. 

  • Can I choose the colour of my rental car?

    Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate specific colour requests as availability is subject to variation.

  • Where do I collect my rental car?

    The rental car can be collected from the designated Pick-Up Location stated in the e-ticket.

  • Can I modify or cancel my reservation?

    Yes, you can place the cancellation/modification request using our Selfdrive app or by sending an email to info@self-drive.uk.

  • Can someone else drive the rental car besides the registered drivers?

    Only registered drivers are authorised to drive the vehicle during the rental period. If you need to add another driver, they must be included in the rental contract as an additional driver, granting them permission to drive the vehicle during the rental period.

  • What happens if I exceed the included mileage in my rental agreement?

    If you exceed the allotted mileage, additional charges will be incurred at a predetermined flat rate per mile, as outlined in your e-ticket. The pricing per mile varies based on the vehicle model and can be found in your e-ticket or our mobile app.

  • What happens if the car breaks down or I'm involved in an accident?

    For assistance with issues or breakdowns, please log into the Mobile App and contact the service provider through the Emergency Assistance section.

  • How do I return the car?

    You can place the return request using the Selfdrive app under the Return Request section. Please note that it is mandatory to place the return request 24 hours before the rental expiry, otherwise the booking will be auto extended.

  • Can I return my car early?

    Yes, you can place the early return request using the Selfdrive app. However, no refunds will be issued for early returns of the vehicle prior to the scheduled return date.

  • What is the smoking policy for rental vehicles?

    Smoking is strictly prohibited in all of our rental cars. Violating this policy may result in additional cleaning fees.

  • What is the Fuel Policy?

    When returning a rented car, the fuel level should match the level at the time of pickup, otherwise, an additional fee will be charged.

  • What is the cancellation policy?

    A 10% fee of the total invoice value applies if the cancellation is made before delivery.

  • What should I do if I leave a personal item in the car?

    If you leave a personal item in the car, you can either contact the associate partner or contact our customer service within 24 hrs from the rental return with item details and rental information. 

  • Can I drive into another country?

    You may be permitted to cross the border or drive into another country with the vehicle, subject to approval from our associate partner. 

Booking Process

  • What is the shortest and the longest period I can rent the car for?

    Our car rental service offers customers the option to rent a car starting from 1 day to 12 Months.

  • Are the vehicles brand new?

    The majority of our rental cars are either the latest 2024 model or fairly new models, subject to availability.

  • Do I receive a booking confirmation?

    Yes, you will receive a booking confirmation for every booking made through Selfdrive.

  • How do I receive the confirmation?

    The booking confirmation will be shared via email, and an SMS will be sent to the registered phone number. Alternatively, you can access the e-ticket from our Selfdrive app.

  • What do I do if I do not receive my confirmation?

    If you don't receive your confirmation, simply log in to the Selfdrive app to access your e-ticket using the registered mobile number.

  • How can I cancel my booking?

    You can place the cancellation request using our Selfdrive app or by sending an email to info@self-drive.uk.

  • What is One-Time Documentation?

    One-time documentation is the requirement of submitting documents only once, during the initial registration process.

  • What happens if I return the vehicle late?

    If the vehicle is returned after the agreed-upon date/time, additional rental charges will apply for the late return.

  • Can I hire a car and drop it off in a different location?

    For dropping off the rental car in a different location is subject to the approval. You can contact the customer service to arrange a pickup with an applicable additional drop-off fee.

  • What happens if I exceed the mileage I booked?

  • Can I add full coverage insurance after I have picked up the car?

    If the insurance is provided by the Selfdrive the full coverage insurance can be added based on the subject to approval post picking up the car, using our Selfdrive app. If the insurance is not provided by Selfdrive, you can contact the insurance provider.

  • What happens if the car breaks down or I'm involved in an accident?

    Daily rental offers the convenience of renting a vehicle for 1 to 6 days, commonly used for short-term transportation needs.

  • What is Weekly Rental?

    Weekly rental provides the option to rent a vehicle for a period of 7 to 29 days, commonly used for both short and long-term transportation needs.

  • What is Flexi lease/Monthly Rental?

    Monthly rental or Flexi lease provides the customers to enjoy the flexibility of renting a car for 1 month to 12 months directly.

  • Can I rent a car from the Airport?

    Yes, you can conveniently book a car and pick it up directly from the rental counter at the airport. 

  • What is a Corporate Car Rental Subscription?

    Corporate car rental subscription is a rental service provided to businesses, allowing them to access flexible car rental services from 1 to 12 months.

  • What is Selfdrive's Salary Sacrifice Scheme?

    Selfdrive's Salary Sacrifice Scheme allows SMEs and start-ups to exchange a portion of gross salary for a leased car, offering employees new, fully maintained EVs or plug-in hybrids for a fixed monthly cost. Download our app for more details.

  • What payment methods does Selfdrive accept?

    We accept payments through valid Credit and Debit Card (MasterCard, Visa).

  • Is there a security deposit required to rent a car from Selfdrive?

    Yes, a refundable security deposit is required for all Selfdrive rentals and it will be refunded in 30 working days after the car is returned.

  • What is included in the Rental price?

  • What is a non-rental?

    Non-rental are the expenses such as parking fines, traffic fines, key loss, damage, or unpaid toll charges that will be auto charged and respective invoices will be shared to the registered email address. Please log into the Selfdrive app and navigate to the Profile section.

  • Will I get an invoice when I am charged for a non-rental?

    Yes, you can find the non-rental charges in the invoices by using the Selfdrive app or checking your registered email address.

  • Are there any late payment charges for delay rental & Non-Rental Payment?

    Yes, late payment charges may apply for delayed rental and non-rental payments. Please check the invoice by using the Selfdrive app.

  • How can I claim the Security deposit?

    To claim the security deposit, open the Selfdrive app and tap the claim button in the Deposit Credit section. Please note that the deposit can be claimed after 30 working days of returning the rental car.

  • How can I check the status of the claim/refund?

    You can check the status of the claim/refund in the Selfdrive app under the Deposit section.

  • Where can I access my invoices?

    You can access your invoices by logging into the Selfdrive app and navigating to the Profile section.

  • What is Selfdrive Credits?

    Selfdrive Credits are the super-fast way to receive all of your dues in the form of Credits. Be it rental, deposit or your special discount.
